Most of the day and then a Twelfth Night

Thank-you to the scholars who came to my home in order to watch two Shakespeare plays and then went over to Stadium High in order to see The Twelfth Night performed.  I hoped that you all got some ideas and insights for our spring play.  I did not get any photos of our field trip but here are a few photos of the scholars watching "As You Like It" and eating some snacks (or avoiding the camera).

Play Watching Opportunity

Today in class we learned about banters and quibbles, discussed Romeo and Juliet, played a vocabulary game and listened to presentations from Merry and Isaac.  Isaac even brought in his own "finger food" to share with the class.

Stadium High School is presenting Shakespeare's Twelfth Night tonight, tomorrow night and Saturday night.  If you would like to view it with friends, we are going to see it on Saturday.  Feel free to drop off your Shakespearean scholars at my house at 2:30pm in order to watch As You Like It and Love Labour's Lost and then we will be going over to the school to see this play.  More details will be in email communication.

Asides and Gender Roles

Today we learned about asides. Here are some examples:
I will try and post more throughout the week.  Look for asides like this in the Shakespeare plays that you read, watch or listen to as well as in other films.

We also heard from Hannah today as she presented about gender roles at Elizabethan times.

Next week we will hear from Merry and Isaac.  We will also discuss Act IV, Scenes 4-5.  Please make sure to read this before coming to class and be prepared to turn in your paper on a mythological creature.

To Monologue or Not to Monologue, That is the Question

This last week we learned about the difference between soliloquies and setpieces and monologues.
This week everyone needs to read Act IV, scenes 1-3 in Romeo and Juliet and write on the topic: Is death ever a solution to problems?  Why or why not?
We will also hear a presentation from Merry and Hannah.

And we mustn't forget, our Isaac was crowned as the first king of Shakespeare for the year!
